Arsip merupakan pusat ingatan dari setiap organisasi. Apabila arsip yang dimiliki oleh organisasi kurang baik pengelolaannya, maka akibatnya akan mempengaruhi tingkat reputasi suatu organisasi, sehingga organisasi yang bersangkutan akan mengalami hambatan dalam pencapaian tujuan. Setiap pegawai dalam suatu organisasi, perkantoran maupun pemerintahan dituntut agar dapat bekerja efektif dan efisien dalam menunjang tujuan organisasi, supaya pegawai dapat bekerja efektif, kualitas dan kuantitas harus sesuai kebutuhan organisasi. Pada intinya Kearsipan adalah hal-hal yang berhubungan dengan arsip atau suatu proses mulai dari penciptaan, penerimaan, pengumpulan, pengaturan, pengendalian, pemeliharaan dan perawatan serta penyimpanan warkat menurut sistem tertentu. Saat dibutuhkan dapat dengan mudah, cepat dan tepat ditemukan. Bila arsip-arsip tersebut tidak bernilai guna lagi, maka harus dimusnahkan. Kearsipan adalah manajemen arsip sebagai proses pengawasan, penyimpanan, dan pengamanan dokumen serta arsip baik dalam bentuk kertas maupun media elektronik.
