Screening for Plagiarism

The Journal of Teaching and Education for Scholars (JOTES) strictly enforces international standards of academic integrity. All submitted manuscripts are screened for similarity using Turnitin (or equivalent detection tools) before entering the peer-review process. JOTES maintains a zero-tolerance policy and will immediately reject any paper indicating plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

Plagiarism occurs when an author takes ideas, information, or words from another source without proper credit. Even when it occurs unintentionally, plagiarism is a serious academic violation. To ensure compliance, authors must strictly adhere to the following citation rules:

  • Specific Information: Any specific data, statistics, or detailed information taken from another source must be properly cited, unless it is widely considered universal common knowledge.

  • Ideas and Concepts: When adapting or developing an idea from another author, the original source must be cited, even if the concept is significantly expanded upon in your own words.

  • Direct Quotations: If four or more consecutive words are identical to a published source, authors must use quotation marks and provide a direct citation. A citation alone without quotation marks for directly copied text is insufficient and constitutes plagiarism.

JOTES takes academic integrity very seriously. The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject submissions or retract accepted papers if any violation of these standards is discovered at any stage of the publication process. For further inquiries regarding this policy, please contact the Editorial Team directly through the JOTES Open Journal System (OJS) platform.
